Overview
From Still to Moving Image

The Videography Class builds on your photography foundation and adds everything specific to moving image: frame rates, cinematic coverage, camera movement, audio, log shooting, colour grading, and timeline editing.

You shoot on a Panasonic Lumix S5 IIx — a professional full-frame mirrorless camera built for video, with 6K internal recording, phase-detect autofocus, and V-Log capability. The same system used on IMARA Film productions.

The course ends with a final project: a short film or branded content piece you produce from brief through delivery.

1 day
The Language of Video
Frame rates, resolution, codecs, the 180° shutter rule, why 24fps looks cinematic, slow motion logic. The vocabulary you need before touching a camera in video mode.

Camera Operation for Video
Video-specific settings on the Lumix S5 IIx. Picture profiles, exposure for video, ND filters, and the differences between exposing for stills and exposing for motion.

Log and Colour
V-Log shooting, LUT workflow, why log footage looks flat and how to grade it in DaVinci Resolve. Understanding the purpose and limitations of log capture.

Cinematic Coverage
How to shoot sequences that cut together. The 5-second rule, shot types (wide, medium, close), cutaways, the 180° axis rule. "Change the view or don't cut." Minimum coverage checklists and two-camera setups.

Movement
Handheld, tripod, slider, gimbal: when and why to use each. Motivated vs. unmotivated camera movement. The discipline of keeping the camera still when the story calls for it.

Audio
Why audio quality matters more than most beginners expect. Microphone types, placement, recording levels, and monitoring on set. Bad audio ruins good footage faster than anything else.

Edit Thinking
How to organize footage, build selects, and assemble a rough cut with intention. Motivated edits, sequence logic, and basic timeline work in DaVinci Resolve. Enough to deliver your final project. Deep colour grading, audio mixing, and finishing move to the dedicated DaVinci Resolve course.

2 days
Final Project
Produce a short film or branded content piece from brief through delivery. You apply every skill from the course: camera operation, coverage, movement, audio, grading, and editing. Group screening and critique.
Equipment
What You Shoot On

You work with a Panasonic Lumix S5 IIx — a professional full-frame mirrorless camera with 6K internal recording, phase-detect autofocus, and V-Log capability. Cameras, lenses, audio gear, and stabilisation equipment are provided for the duration of the course.

Launch
Coming End of 2026

The Videography Class launches at the end of 2026. Course materials are in development.

Course fee: KES 15,000 / USD 120 for 10 training days (KES 1,500 / USD 12 per training day). Mineral water is included. Lunch is not included for this course.

Group size: 2 to 3 students, never more than 4. The Videography Class runs smaller than the Photography Class, close to individual training.
